Nude New Year's Eve party is not going to happen

Beach party girls

Malaysian authorities have condemned rumoured plans for a New Year's Eve sex party at a secluded beach, while police warned the 'no-underwear' fiasco could be a money scam.

Newspaper reports said the party for the under-40s, to be held in southern Johor state bordering Singapore, was being advertised through a website that asked for RM250 as an entrance fee.

Tourism Minister Azalina Othman told a Malaysian newspaper that if this party goes ahead it could damage the country's reputation worldwide, as it is against their culture and religion.

Party organisers had reportedly said that male guests were banned from wearing briefs to the event, while women only allowed to wear G-string panties which had to be removed after midnight.

To entice potential male participants, the organiser claimed that over 200 women, including female college students from Kuala Lumpur and Malacca had confirmed their attendance.

Johor CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner II Amer Awal dismissed the report, but said the authorities were nonetheless on alert.

Amer said police were also tracking down those responsible for attempting to dupe members of the public into paying a deposit to take part in such a party.

He said: "We are, at this point, quite confident that this whole thing is nothing more than a con.

"Even in some Western countries, such parties are organised in secrecy. No organiser would be so bold as to try and invite potential participants through a website.

"And the fact that they are only asking for a RM250 deposit is indeed fishy. Why so cheap?"

Man living at Airport disappears

Hiroshi Nohara sits in Mexico City's main international airport

A Japanese man who had been living in Terminal 1 of the Benito Juarez International Airport since September 2, for no apparent reason has packed up his belongings and left under equally mysterious circumstances.

Airport authorities searched for Hiroshi Nohara on Monday but he was nowhere to be seen.

Pictures later revealed him getting into a cab on Sunday with an unidentified woman who had twice visited him at the airport on earlier occasions.

Nohara's bizarre stay at the airport had made him a local celebrity and drawn comparisons with Viktor Navorski, a character portrayed by Tom Hanks in the 2004 movie The Terminal.

However, unlike Narovski, Nohara had a tourist visa that allows him to stay in Mexico — anywhere in Mexico, not just the airport — until early March. He also possessed a ticket home, meaning he was free to leave when he chose.

Nohara's motives were reportedly never revealed despite his stay being documented daily by local television networks.

Most stupid criminal ever?

Bank robbery

Chicago police have arrested a bank robber who solved his own crime for authorities as he left a pay stub with his name and address at the scene.

The suspect, 40-year-old Thomas Infante, walked into a Chicago bank and handed a teller a threatening note saying: "Be Quick Be Quit (quiet). Give your cash or I'll shoot."

He got $400 but failed to consider was that the note was written on the back of his own pay stub that had been torn in half.

The other half of the pay stub, which was found outside the bank, had Infante's name and address.

Police said they had known some strange bank robberies but none quite like this one.

FBI spokesman Ross Rice said: "It's fairly unusual that we see something that specifically stupid."

Infante was later arrested at his home in Cary, Illinois, and later admitted the robbery.

If convicted, he could be jailed for up to 20 years.

Fan-made Thundercats trailer

Posted by hitsu On 12/24/2008 06:41:00 PM 1 comments

After Superman, Batman, Spiderman, X-Men, Incredible Hulk, Transformers, and tones of other superhero movies, now we will have an addition to it as Thundercats movie in the works. The movie will be entirely CGI and directed by a video game designer.

But what you'll see here is a fake trailer for Thundercats movie made by cutting together footage from masterpieces such as The Chronicles Of Riddick, Troy, X-Men 2, Spy Kids and Farscape.

The movie featuring:
  • Brad Pitt as Lion-O
  • Vin Diesel as Panthro
  • Gigi Edgley as Cheetara
  • Hugh Jackman as Tygra

Since Thundercats was a popular '80s cartoon, making a live action trailer for a live action Thundercats movie would be very hard to do.

The San Francisco based Wormy TV took over a year to take clips from old movies, edit them in Adobe Premiere, and add special effect via Photoshop.

The biggest effect is in taking several movie stars and turning them into manimals, by just putting CGI makeup on them during clips of their old films.

If you’re not familiar with Thundercats, you could check out the real intro here.

Crocodile found in a bath

Crocodile found in a bath

A two-foot long crocodile has been found living in a bath in Peckham, London.

Pest controller Steve North discovered the killer beast while on a routine call advertising the local council's services.

A resident invited him in and sid he had a 'problem' in his bathroom and asked Steve to take a look at it.

Steve said: "I followed him in. What I didn't expect was to be eyeballed by a 2ft long crocodile, happily lounging in the bath."

The man, a tenant who was renting the flat, said he was looking after the crocodile for a friend.

A team of animal control experts had to be brought in to remove the crocodile and take it away.

Flea Control Guide

Posted by hitsu On 12/23/2008 06:54:00 PM 0 comments
Flea bite

Fleas can be one of the most annoying aspects of owning a pet. They make pets' lives miserable as fleas feed off the blood of animals such as dogs and cats. Plus, they also bite people.

Flea bite is extremely annoying - they cause itchy, raised bumps that can be extremely aggravating, and infections caused by scratching are common.

The Symptoms of a flea bite has certain features:
  • A red, swollen wheal develops within half an hour of the bite.
  • After a day or so, the wheal may develop into a blister or small wound.
  • Severe itching in a specific area
  • Some people may become hypersensitive (very sensitive) to bites.

So how to treat flea bites?

First, you need to resist the urge to scratch - an over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone cream can help relieve itching - and wash the bites with antiseptic soap to reduce the risk of infection. Apply an icepack frequently to help relieve swelling. Use calamine lotion, anaesthetic creams or similar to treat the itching.

If you frequently get bitten by fleas, it is best to break the flea life cycle by treating the home, the pets, and any areas that the pet frequents with insecticide.

Instead of using chemical flea treatments on your pet and in your home, you may prefer to try some natural flea control methods. These involve home remedies, such as diatomaceous earth and essential oils, which will kill or deter fleas without chemicals.

If home treatments are ineffective, professional extermination may be needed.

Dogless shepherd controls flock of sheep with wolf poster

Dogless shepherd controls flock of sheep with wolf poster

The credit crunch has forced us all to cut back on life's luxuries.

But this shepherd may have tightened his purse strings a little too much in the face of the recession.

Farmer Du Hebing couldn't afford another sheepdog after his old one died, so he learned how to control his flock using just a poster of a wolf after seeing one in a local wildlife park.

Du told Huashang Daily that he shot the picture by chance.

"After visiting Qinling Wild Animal Park, on the way home I saw a group of sheep walking along the road with a man holding a picture following behind them.

"The man was using the wolf picture to scare the sheep and drive them ahead - it was a really funny scene.

"But I noticed that the sheep never went near it.

"People laugh and point but it works - and the poster eats a lot less than any sheepdog."

How does Santa Claus travel around the world in just one night on his reindeer-pulled sleigh and deliver toys to all the children?

It's a question that has puzzled children for decades. Just how does Santa Claus travel around the world in just one night on his reindeer-pulled sleigh and deliver toys to all the children?

The answer is surprisingly scientific.

"He exploits the space-time continuum," Larry Silverberg, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University, told Reuters.

"He understands that space stretches, he understands that you can stretch time, compress space and therefore he can, in a sense, actually have six Santa months to deliver the presents.

"In our reference frame it appears as though he does it in the wink of an eye and in fact there have been sightings of Santa, quick sightings, and that's in our reference frame, but in Santa's reference frame he really has six months".

But how does he fit all those presents into his sleigh?

"We believe that he uses nanotechnology to grow the presents under the tree and really, what he's done, is he's figured out how to turn what we call irreversible thermo-dynamic properties into reversible ones and so he really starts with soot, candy, other types of natural materials, he puts them under the tree and he actually grows them in a reverse process to create the presents, wrapping and all."

And then there's the age-old question that Santa has to address every year -- who's been naughty and who's been nice?

"We believe, that there are large antennas miles long under the snow up at the north pole and we think the grid-spacing is in the order of millimeters so that you can receive radar-type signals."

Santa's trip takes in all continents and all time zones and Silverberg says his sleigh is equipped with an onboard sleigh guidance system to help him navigate.

Meanwhile his reindeer are genetically bred to fly, balance on rooftops and see in the dark.

"It's certainly a worthy thing to spend time on and it has all sorts of ramifications in everyday life," Silverberg said.

Musical walrus

Sara the Walrus
Sara the Walrus

A walrus has become a star attraction with visitors at a zoo by learning to play the saxophone under the guidance of her trainer.

Under the direction of her Russian trainer Sergiy, Sara the Walrus grips the brass instrument between her flippers and rocks out to a powerful sax solo at the newly-opened Istanbul Dolphinarium in Istanbul, Turkey

Sara is particularly clever as she can strike a nonchalant pose, leaning on a worktop with one flipper under her chin and looking bored.

Her skills at mimicking humans extend to dressing up as a railway conductor and blowing a whistle.

She can lie down and catch a rose when it is thrown to her, and has become adept at games with balls and hoops.

Sara certainly has a much more exciting life than her wild counterparts, which spend most of their lives on sea ice and seeking out molluscs to eat.

Squid with 'elbows' caught on video

Posted by hitsu On 12/01/2008 09:46:00 PM 0 comments

An underwater camera at an oil and gas drilling site off the coast of Texas has captured a rare sight: an alien-like, long-armed, and "elbowed" Magnapinna squid.

The creature, caught on video by a remote-controlled device owned by the Shell Oil Company, was spotted last November roughly a mile and a half below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico.

Footage of the rare squid had been circulating among oil industry employees for months, but became public after a recent report in National Geographic.

"Perdido ROV Visitor, What Is It?" the email's subject line read — Perdido being the name of a Shell-owned drilling site which is located about 200 miles off Houston, Texas.

Despite the squid's apparent unflappability on camera, Magnapinna, or "big fin," squid remain largely a mystery to science.

First identified ten years ago, Magnapinna, or "big fin," has ten tentacles of equal length (as opposed to other squid species, which normally have eight short and two long tentacles), and those tentacles seem to have a visible "elbow" at a short distance from the main body.

Adult squids of this type can range from 1.5 m to 7 m in size.

Scientists are still unsure what function the elbows serve, with some suggesting they help prevent the tentacles from getting tangled when trawling for food.

The Magnapinna squid has never been filmed at a drilling site before, and has only been caught on camera a few times.

The discovery indicates how little we know about life in the Earth's largest ecosystem.
