Airport authorities searched for Hiroshi Nohara on Monday but he was nowhere to be seen.
Pictures later revealed him getting into a cab on Sunday with an unidentified woman who had twice visited him at the airport on earlier occasions.
Nohara's bizarre stay at the airport had made him a local celebrity and drawn comparisons with Viktor Navorski, a character portrayed by Tom Hanks in the 2004 movie The Terminal.
However, unlike Narovski, Nohara had a tourist visa that allows him to stay in Mexico — anywhere in Mexico, not just the airport — until early March. He also possessed a ticket home, meaning he was free to leave when he chose.
Nohara's motives were reportedly never revealed despite his stay being documented daily by local television networks.
